In a United States legislative session, the Florida Association of Realtors fought
to retain the state's affordable housing trust fund available for its intended
use. The state's provision for affordable housing, the William e. Sadowski Affordable
Housing Act of 1992, has served as a model for other states. Its funds were
in danger of being shifted into the state's general fund. Realtors also worked
to defeat a proposal that would have replaced impact fees on new homes with
a transfer tax on all real estate transactions. Realtors opposed this bill because
it would have kept many working families, single mothers and others from becoming
homeowners.
